Can any pharmacists tell me the hours that they work?

I would like to be a pharmacist but i do not want to work as late as the pharmacy is open.. do the pharmacists stay till the pharmacy closes even if its not open 24 hours?

  1. Most full-time salaried pharmacists work approximately 40 hours a week, and about 10 percent work more than 50 hours. Many community and hospital pharmacies are open for extended hours or around the clock, so pharmacists may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Consultant pharmacists may travel to nursing homes or other facilities to monitor patients’ drug therapy. About 16 percent of pharmacists worked part time in 2006.
  2. A pharmacist must be in the pharmacy for it to remain open. [edit] exceptions may be allowed *in some states* to take short meal breaks. I've worked in hospitals, always alternating every other or every third weekend. The same is true for retail. Whether you are the manager or staff pharmacist you will end up rotating through weekends. And it is rare to work only days or only evenings shifts. Most pharmacist are scheduled to rotate through both or in some instances will work one day on - one day off (a 12 hour shift for instance). And then there are the ones like me who work graveyard shift (overnight). I work 7 nights in a row, from 10pm-8am (9am on Mon and Tues mornings) and then I have 7 days off in a row, So with OT built in every day I get paid the same as 80 hours in one week and then I get a whole week off every other week.
  3. know i dont think they stay
  4. Sasha essentially got it right, especially the part about the pharmacy not being to be open without a pharmacist.
