  1. About 7 years of college. To be a Pharmacist, one gets a degree called Pharm. D. Used to be a bachelors level course of study; not anymore.
  2. in the hospital setting a pharmacist receives the doctors orders and then they enter it into the computer system. When they do this a label will print for the medication. It is the responsibility of the technicians to get all of the medications ready to be sent up to the floors for delivery. Technicians are the pill counters, sometimes IV makers, they stock the shelves, and do most of the manual labor. The pharmacists just check the technician's work to see that it was prepared properly. In a retail store it's similar where a pharmacist checks the technician's work, but the technicians usually deal with customers, call insurance companies and enter stuff into the computers. To become a phamactist you need 6+ years of schooling, to become a technician all you need is to graduate high school
