How tough is it to get a pharmacy degree?

I'd like advice from anyone who is/has studied pharmacy. I got a 26 on the ACT and consider myself fairly intelligent. I'm going to be transferring from Youngstown State University (20 Average ACT) to Ohio State (26 Average ACT). I am considering either agribusiness or pharmacy and would like to know how tough a Pharm.D is to complete. Thanks!

  1. I'm not a pharmacist but I have a friend who is and it is basically a doctorate degree. So you would have your bachelor and then who have to apply to the various Pharisist Schools in the US. I know that it is really hard schooling and when you do get a job you most likely will work weekends, nights and holidays in most cases.
  2. If you fear that it might be too hard, it will be.
  3. for pharmacy it takes about 6-8 years to get your degree so if you're up for that go for it.. i can tell you this much its alot of work and studying in pharmacy.. if you have a good memory and can understand chemistry and other science classes...go for it.. because classes you take are mostly chemistry based and pharmacology based. ...good luck with which one you may choose
  4. You should check out the book _PCAT Success_ by Gourley & Gourley. It's not just about the Pharmacy College Admissions Test, though that's most of it. The book also tells you a lot about pharmacy and pharmacy school and if that's really the job for you. Also, the test section will give you a good idea if you have the basic knowledge it takes to be a pharmacist. You can cruse through the book in 45 minutes or study the entire thing and spend about a week.
  5. its a lot more difficult than a business degree, but isnt all that much harder than any other biology or chem degree. its tough to get into pharm school though. if you can manage to get in you shouldnt have a problem getting the degree unless you drink too much. basically you have to do 2 years of prepharmacy (some schools require 4, 2 for most-check up on that for your school) and meet the prereq requirments (see ohio state's pharmacy website, probably has details there. ACT score doesnt matter that much once you get into college. PCAT score, your GPA, and people skills are a lot more important for pharmacy admissions
