Why do pharmacists think they can decide NOT to fill birth control prescriptions?
Even when they do not know what those pills are for medical conditions and not actually birth control. (When it goes against their own moral values as far as birth control)?

- I have never heard of that. If your dr prescribes it, they have to fill it.
- I didnt know that pharmacists could deny it unless it interacts with another current medication that you are on.
- Yeah, if one actually did that, you can sue them...
- Well, they have the right to not do that. You have the right to tell the doctor you don't want birth control and you would like something else that can do the same result. They are not held to the same standards of doctors who must execute their job regardless of their ethics.
- Most pharmacists don't feel that way And, it's usually not BCP that they have an issue with, it's the morning after pill. They think it conflicts with their religious beliefs. But, that is only a small percentage
- They must fill it if you have a Rx. Call your doc and tell him/her what happened, and the pharmacy's name, number, and the name of the idiot that refused to fill it. That would really piss me off too.
- They have to fill it. If they decide not to fill it then get the prescription slip back and take it to another store.
- Unfortunately this is going on in the US right now which to me is a farce- They should be obligated to fill any type of prescription, no matter what it is. If I am not mistaken this has mostly gone on in Walmarts around the country. Unfortunately this goes on in the nursing field also- I have seen nurses refusing to care for someone who just went through an abortion procedure in the hospital.
- They should fill out any RX's as long as it does'nt interact with any other meds. If a person brings a prescription to that pharmisist, their job is to fill your prescription whether they like it or not. That's what there getting paid for. It's no different than filling schedule II narcatics which some get it filled and then sell it on the streets which is illegal.
- The pharmacist may be catholic and decided to refuse to fill one due to personnal religious beliefs. However I'm pretty sure the Catholic church recently made a new ruling regarding birth control pills so your problem may be over. Also they may be bound by law to dispense the medication or have another pharmacist on location do it. I would look for a phone number for the home office and complain if it is a pharmacy chain store.
- This is so stupid. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO TELL YOU WHAT YOU CAN AND CANNOT DO TO YOUR BODY. This country was founded on freedom and choices. It is mainly the Morning after pill that is so controversial, although IT IS JUST LIKE BIRTH CONTROL PEOPLE. Sometimes, you need birth control for medical conditions, like you said. I do too, but I use it for the obvious reasons too. I went to Planned Parenthood and got a prescription for MAP ANYWAY, so EAT IT you self righteous ***holes! *HARUMPH*
