24 Hour Pharmacy Knowledge Base
Does Duane Reade provide pharmacy tech training? Is Duane Reade like CVS and Walgreens, where you don't have to be a certified pharmacy tech for them to hire you? If not, are there any pharmacies (preferably 24-hour) in NYC that will train?
Considering moving to Seattle......? I am considering moving to Seattle, but have a couple of questions that none of the many "moving to Seattle" type questions have asked. Pls answer with the question number next to it: 1. If I move to the Seattle area, I would like to move to the suburbs & take the train into the city each day. Is this possible? (I understand traffic is pretty bad) Does the train system have a monthly pass? How reliable is the train? 2. If #1 is possible, what suburbs would you suggest? I would like a neighborhood with a 24-hour pharmacy, a supermarket that is open late, a Super Target and a Costco that is within 30 mins drive. I do not mind riding the train for up to 30 minutes each way. 3. What are the average condo prices & rental prices for the suburbs you suggested in #2? 4. Where I live now interracial dating is frowned on, what is it like in Seattle? 5. How hard/easy is it to find a job in the legal sector in Seattle? Any other info that you would like to give me would be gladly accepted

Possible pregnancy? I had sex with my boyfriend protected but the condom broke. We went to a 24 hour pharmacy and bought an emergency contraceptive pill. I took it and I feel really nauseous. What are the chances of me still being pregnant? Also, when is the highest chance of me getting pregnan,t before or after my period?
Doctors: effectiveness of Plan B after ovulation? Yesterday, DH and I had unprotected sex. We use family planning and in the heat of the moment, didn't realize that we weren't in our safe time frame. Afterwards, we realized, panicked and went looking for a 24 hour pharmacy to pick up Plan B and none of the pharmacies were open 24 hours. I had the type of pain that lets me know I ovulated early this morning, around 7 am. I went to the pharmacy when they opened at 9:30am and took Plan B immediately. Knowing that I ovulated this morning, what are the chances that I'll become pregnanct?
Question about prescription? I get the generic form of xanax which is Alprazolam 0.5 mg. Tonight when I went to get my refill they were out of the generic form that my insurance covers, but so that I wouldn't run out, the pharmacist gave me a couple of white pills with "breaks"? in them? Until the others come in. I guess these are the real xanax. He didn't give any instructions and this isn't a 24 hour pharmacy, but can someone tell me how many mg each "break" in the pill is? There are 4 slits in one skinny pill. For it to equal 0.5mg, should I take 1/4 or 1/2 or the whole pill?
giving 4 year old her meds with arm in sling? we just took our daughter to the hospital to make sure everything was alright, and it turns out she has a broken collar bone, so they put her arm in a sling. the doc gave her some meds (none there, we had to pick them up from the walgreens 24 hour pharmacy) and now we are having a hard time giving them to her. she just doesnt want to take her meds. every other time, even when shes sick, she usually has no problem taking them. Any suggestions on HOW we can give them to her? its liquid form, and we just dont want to "shove it down her throat". poor thing fell off the bed and her whole weight landed on her shoulder. doc said she should heal up 6-8 weeks. the pain medicine is loratab, the liquid kind. we got to set up an orthopedic appt tomorrow morning for her, but the doc at the hospital said also that 99% chance she will not have to have surgery.
Bleeding Ear Question? Ive had a stuffy nose for about a week now and recently, I saw that my ear was bleeding (left) then, a few days later (yesterday) my right ear started bleeding ALOT and wouldnt stop. I have also been gettin quite frequent nosebleeds. I went to the emergency room and they did nothing to help me, the doctor looked really young and everyone there seemed to be just wanting to get me out of there (I was the only patient, it is a fairly new hospital so not many people go there) He said my eardrum had a hole in it and that I should see an ENT as soon as possible and just sent me home with augmentin. This was all at 3 in the morning so there wasnt anywhere I could get the medicine and he wouldnt give me anything for the pain. I got the medicine from a 24 hour pharmacy and took it but the pain seems to have gotten worse and now I cannot hear very well and my neck is stiff. Is this something I should worry about? Someone I know had a similar problem and they had to have their adenoids and tonsils removed. Could the same think be necessary for me?
Drug interactions..oxycodone/hydrocodone? I took my last oxycodone at 7:30 pm and my prescription was changed to Hydrocodone a few days ago. I was to finish the oxy and then switch to the hydro. I don't know how long I have to wait to start the hydro. I forgot to ask and there are no 24-hour pharmacies in my area. The local hospital won't give advice over the phone and I'm in major pain tonight. I usually take my oxy every 4-6 hours so when that time comes can I go ahead and take the hydro? Or do I have to wait unti lthe Oxy is out of my system? I know they're pretty much the same thing but I definately don't want to cause any weird reactions aside from the ones I already get from the pain meds. Please only add serious responses.
Pharmacy Mistake ??? I just got 3 of my medicines refilled today. The Pharmacy messed up 2 or the 3 I got filled. And the one they actually got right was the most important one thank goodness. Anyway I was looking on WebMD to see if it was just a different MG of the pill. One of them was, I take Allegra-D, 24 Hour. They gave me Allegra-D 12 Hour. When it says on the bottle 24 Hour, the pills are 12hrs. Im taking them back dont worry. The next medicine is Zoloft (Sertraline), 100MG. Usually those pills are small, well smaller than what they gave me. They are JUST about the same color, a real light yellowist color, the Zoloft pill is not round but has curved edges and has straight sides kind of rectangular shaped. and it says on it on one side "Zoloft" and on the other "100 MG" the "unknown pill" is oval like rectangualr shaped no straight edges and says "9 3" and "7|77" If anyone knows what this pill is please help. I am not taking this, I am taking it back, but I want to know what it is, ty Also, The medicine IS in my name, and the percription numbers DO match. me and my sister are looking that up right now and we are finding nothing, Mom told me about the generic brand and to think they would tell me if they were changing it?? Both say 100MG on the bottle. we looked up Sertaline and the numbers on the pill did not match on the highest dosage of medicine I looked on the paper they give me each time i refill and there is nothing writtin on it. as usual. lol I m ean really you think they would inform someone about this stuff?? *sigh* oh well, im going to bed. Thank you everyone :) You were all a big help!
trying to get into pharmacy school? I am a SSgt in the USAF and I am also a Certified Pharmacy Technician and licensed in the state of Texas. I have been a CPhT for over 2 years and a Pharmacy Tech for over 5 years. I am trying to separate form the military to go to Pharmacy School. I am trying to attend UMKC School of Pharmacy. I am not considered a transfer student because I have less than 24 hours of college credit. I would be considered a freshman. I wanted to try to apply for the provisional program which I would be doing my prerequisites, taking the PCAT and I would hold a reserve seat in Pharmacy School. Basically it is a 0+6 program. The program ask for High School Seniors. I have some college classes with a GPA of 3.8. I graduated high school in 2003. If I am not a transfer student and I am in the military, could they waiver the "high school" requirement for me? Do I have a good chance of getting in Pharmacy School?
Is the walgreens pharmacy? it says 24 hours on the website, does that include weekends? i meant to ask is the walgreens pharmacy open on weekends if the website lists it as open 24 hours?
What can you buy at a drive through pharmachy like CVS? A bunch of pharmacies in my area (in the US), including Rite Aid and CVS have "drive through" windows that are open late or 24 hours. What can one buy there? Prescription drugs? OTC medicines? Laundry Detergents? Tissues? Candy? All of the above? Just being curious. Thanks.

In the USAs healthcare system today, which group do you think makes the most profit? Nurses Hospitals Doctors Pharmacies Drug Manufacturers Insurance Companies. And were you aware the USA has national healthcare already. Medical care is available to EVERYONE in the country, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, regardless of ability to pay, heck even if you are not a citizen of this country. Go to any ER in any city and you will be taken care of. Insurers have the lowest expense and the greatest margin of profit in the healthcare business, they own congress with campaign donations so they get to write their own rules. They tell the doctors what they will be paid, the doctors do not tell the insurance companies what they will charge, they wait six to nine months to pay. The insurance companies state what drugs you can use and what they will pay for them. Litigation in lawsuits for the most part are won by the insurance companies, ie they do not pay settlements. SO when you want to rant about healthcare, look at the insurers and which politicians in Congress they control.
Moving to Connecticut? I am at the end of my rope here... we are trying to find a place to live in CT (a rental) and cannot find a good town or a place to live. What towns would anyone suggest that are more northwestern CT and not a big city? And preferably have some sort of 24 hour walmart or at least pharmacy.... I cant stand being the only one up at 1am!!!
The pharmacy (medco) put a wrong pill in my bottle. what shoud i do? So i last month i ordered a 90 supply of my high blood pressure medication. I normally take it on the go and throw it in my mouth and rush out the house for work. however today i picked up a pill box and noticed one of the medciation was different. It was a capsel in instead of a pill. however it was the same color. I assume it was the same thing but different packaging. However i decided to call to make sure. come to find it is a Neuropathology medication!!! I am so scared right now! i could have been disable or something. Maybe even died!! i put in a complaint and they told me they would get back to me in 24 hours. But i am not sure if i want to let go of this so easy.... I could have been sick or worst... what should i do? what would you do? I mean mistakes like this just cant happen! what would have happen if i took this pill with my other Blood pressure pills? This is just so crazy!
A question about grocery stores in England? What kind of hours do most grocery stores there have? Do you have any that are open 24 hours a day? Also, are your grocery stores pretty much one-stop shopping? Here in the US for example, we have grocery stores and pharmacies (chemists?) all in one. Also we don't have to go to a Baker and a Butcher, etc etc, to do all of our shopping. Thanks!
Claritin and Robitussin (cough & cold) CF. Can you take these together? Ok, so I cannot call the pharmacy. I took a Claritin this morning around 10......and it says that you can only take one every 24 hours. I cannot breathe good!! My nose is SO stuffed up. I am wondering if will be SAFE to take so Robitussin for my stuffed up nose even though I have already taken Clairitin this morning!?!?
Have you ever had a pharmacist give you the wrong prescription? It just happened to me an hour and a half ago at my nearby Walgreens. Fortunately, the store is only a mile from home, the pharmacy is open 24 hours, and I've been on my meds for 12 years, so I know what the name of it is, what it looks like, and how to spell it. As soon as I got home, I opened up the package and realized I was given the wrong medication! My medication begins w/ the same letter as the mistaken one did, but the spelling of the two, the appearance between the two, and the uses of the meds are totally different. The pharmacist apologized several times, and I politely said everybody makes mistakes. Then she said it wasn't my mistake- an obvious way to protect against a lawsuit! I wasn't going to sue anyway, but this type of mistake can be dangerous! I definitely wouldn't want the responsibility of a pharmacist! If this has happened to you, please tell me the name of the pharmacy but not where it's located for privacy reasons. Thanks.
The doctor overdosed my baby? I had to take my daughter to the doctor today because she has a fever. At the doctors office they gave her 8 ml of tylenol. When i went to the pharmacy to pick up some more medication for her, the pharmacist thought the dosing was too high so he called the doctor and come to find out she messed up the dosing. My daughter should only have had 3.5 ml. The doctor called me and told me that she messed up and not to give my daughter any more tylenol for 24 hours. What would you do if this happened to you? my plan is not to sue, i honestly dont think it will do me any good, this is a military hospital.
Wana laugh, I hope this is funny..? You know you're a nurse if... You believe every patient needs TLC: Thorazine, Lorazepam and Compazine. You would like to meet the inventor of the call light in a dark alley one night. You believe not all patients are annoying ... some are unconscious. Your sense of humor seems to get more "warped" each year. You know the phone numbers of every late night food delivery place in town by heart. You can only tell time with a 24 hour clock. Almost everything can seem humorous ... eventually. When asked, "What color is the patient's diarrhea?", you show them your shoes. Every time you walk, you make a rattling noise because of all the scissors and clamps in your pockets. You can tell the pharmacist more about the medicines he is dispensing than he can. You carry "spare" meds in your pocket rather than wait for pharmacy to deliver. You refuse to watch ER because it's too much like the real thing and triggers "flash backs." You check the caller ID when the phone rings on your day off to see if someone from the hospital is trying to call to ask you to work. You've been telling stories in a restaurant and had someone at another table throw up. You notice that you use more four letter words now than before you became a nurse. Every time someone asks you for a pen, you can find at least three of them on you. You can intubate your friends at parties. You don't get excited about blood loss ... unless it's your own. You live by the motto, "To be right is only half the battle, to convince the physician is more difficult." You've basted your Thanksgiving turkey with a Toomey syringe. You've told a confused patient your name was that of your coworker and to HOLLER if they need help. Eating microwave popcorn out a clean bedpan is perfectly natural. Your bladder can expand to the same size as a Winnebago's water tank. When checking the level of orientation of a patient, you aren't sure of the answer. You find yourself checking out other customer's arm veins in grocery waiting lines. You can sleep soundly at the hospital cafeteria table during dinner break, sitting up and not be embarrassed when you wake up. You avoid unhealthy looking shoppers in the mall for fear that they'll drop near you and you'll have to do CPR on your day off. You've sworn you're going to have "NO CODE" tattooed on your chest.
